What is the conversion speed of Rainbow PDF Server Based Converter?

Exact rates are difficult to predict. It depends on the complexity of the document. Additionally, the type of environment in which our software operates can greatly affect conversion speeds. That being said ….the time it takes to convert a page is generally less than I second.

However, we always recommend evaluating our software using your own documents, in your own environment to accurately predict conversion times.

Does Rainbow PDF Server Based Converter support Open Office?

Open Office is something we are considering for a future release, but at this point Antenna House has not committed to support Open Office with our products.

Can Rainbow PDF Server Based Converter add a Watermark to my PDF?

The Rainbow PDF Server Based Converter program does not have a feature to add watermarks. We have two other products that can accomplish this task in a Windows environment.

Our Rainbow PDF Digital Signature can apply a visible signature, which can have a user-defined appearance, to the document. This signature can in fact act like a watermark, and can be applied in a batch operation.

If you only occasionally need to add a watermark and therefore output speed and capacity are not critical here is a very inexpensive alternative. Rainbow PDF Server Based Converter allows the converted files to be outputted directly to a printer instead of to a file and our $20 Rainbow PDF Print Driver supports a watermark feature.

By installing our Rainbow PDF Print Driver and configuring it with the watermark you wish to display you can have our server side converter output to the printer device created by the print driver which, in turn, will output PDF files with the watermark.

How do I place an order for Rainbow PDF Server Based Converter?

What is a Digital Signature?

A Digital Signature is in simple terms a mathematical calculation that gives a numerical value to the document that is signed. Then that value is encrypted using a cryptographic key.

What kind of cryptology does Rainbow PDF Digital Signature use?

Digital Signature uses Asymmetric cryptology. In brief, there are two kinds of keys assigned to documents, a public key and a private key.

You can give your public key to anyone. It’s like your address. If someone sends you a document they can encrypt it using your public key and know that only you will be able to read it.

* If you sign a document using your private key, then people who have your public key can check to see that the document is indeed from you.
* If you send a document using the intended receiver’s public key (address) then only that receiver using his associated private key can decrypt the document.

What is the difference between an electronic signature and a digital signature?

An electronic signature may be just an image of a written signature. A Digital Signature has a unique digital value associated with it that matches the signors identity.

What is the difference between a self signed signature and a digital signature issued by a certificate authority?

A self signed certificate does not have a trusted third party that vouches for the identity of the signor.

What is a Certificate Authority?

Certificate Authority is a trusted source and keeper of digital signature information. This entity is required to meet specialized criteria and report to a Root Authority which certifies the technologies, infrastructure and practices of the Certificate Authority. Certificate Authorities, in order to be licensed to issue Digital Signature Certificates, must meet standards for authority integrity and confidentiality. It is the certificated authority that binds the physical identity of a person (or a corporation) to a public key.

* Individuals requesting a public key are required to present various forms of proof of identity ranging from an e-mail address for low security, to in-person interviews with proof of ID for high security needs.
* Certificate Authorities also are required to revoke certificates.

If an electronic signature has a certification attached to it then the person owning the signature has gone through a process of proving their identity and has obtained a certificate to associate with their signature. When you receive a PDF with a certified digital signature, you can check the status of the signature by selecting the pen icon on the left side of your Adobe Reader screen to receive a signature status message.

* Valid – Validates that this PDF did indeed come from the person with that Digital Signature. He is who he says he is, and his signature is current and registered with the certificate authority.
* Unable to Validate – Signature Certification has expired or is not registered (unregistered signatures are called self-signed signatures).
* Invalid – Sends a message with the document that the digital signature is and has been rescinded because unauthorized use or because a person is no longer with the company.

Examples of Certificate Authorities are VeriSign and Global Sign.

What is the difference between a Root Certificate Authority and a Certificate Authority?

Certificate Authority Diagram
Multiple Certificate Authorities are authorized by the root authorities to distribute certificates (and verify identities) across broad geographic areas.

How do I sign PDF’s in a batch mode?

Because Rainbow PDF Digital Signature is designed as a PDF filter, to extend the function of an existing application, a loop command similar to:

for %i in (*.pdf) do pdscmd -sign -addnew -sf Field1 -in %i -out %~ni-signed.pdf
is used to perform batched signings.

What is the windows certificate store?

The windows certificate store is a Microsoft software program for accessing other people’s public keys and your private signing key. Easy directions for access and use are located on this website in the “Understanding Digital Signature” link located on the left sidebar under PDF Digital Signature.

How do I know if a document has been digitally signed?

Sometimes there is no physical evidence of a digital signature on a document. By using your Adobe Reader [view] [Navigation Panels] [Signatures] you can display information on the digital signature.

When working directly with a PFX file, how do I get Rainbow PDF Digital Signature to open the file?

When you use a PFX file you need to specify the password on the command-line with ‘-p12-file ‘ or you will get an error message that it could not open the file.

Example of specifying a PFX file for a signature:
C:\temp\Hanako.PFX (password: hanako) is specified as the signing certificate.

PdsCmd -sign -addnew Field1
-sf Field1 1 209 600 309 700
-p12-file hanako C:\temp\Hanako.PFX
-in PDF-Version17.pdf -out examPFX.pdf
